Living Happiness

You know those moments in life where truth becomes evident, where it is as if we take the covers off of our eyes and we can see truth as it actually is.  Recently I feel like I have been having one of those moments.  It started, as most epiphanies seem to, out of a depressed day, yet again worrying about what to do in life, rehearsing all the empty options again and again. But then something happened.  The past week…

56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 61:365 Oops... it has been a few days and I have been terribly neglectful of my gratitude project.  Its funny how when we miss one day it becomes easier and easier to miss more and more.  So anyway here I am going to do a little catch up.  7 things I am super grateful for. Rock Climbing I am absolutely head over heels in love at this point! I have found a new sport…

Learning New Skills

If you know me then you know I am constantly trying new things and learning new skills.  To me, it is exciting to learn, to challenge my mind and expand my base of skills and experiences.  Right now I am trying to learn a number of things, how to rock climb, British Imperial history, and my newest venture into photoshop! I have dabbled with photoshop before, but my skills are way more highly advanced in Illustrator.  But after looking at…

National Parks: A Note On Conservation

It is kind of amazing to me that we, as a country, decided to make our national parks when we did. The 19th century seems to be marked by expansion, imperialism and building of capitalistic and western infrastructure.  We (the US) fought a war with our neighbors and with ourselves, destroying the eastern landscape and killing over 600,000 of our own people. It is kind of amazing to me that in this century we decided that our natural beauties were…

Taking Action: A Mega Thankfulness

So I have been bad the past couple of days and have neglected my gratitude project, but that doesn't mean that I am haven't been thankful.  Actually I have probably been more thankful these past few days simply because I am living and loving life! And I guess that is really it isn't it?  When you are really living and loving life that you don't even have time to worry or wonder or contemplate your own happiness because in those…

Someone To Talk To

49:365 Yesterday I went to lunch with my mom. We had a really good conversation and I was really about to express somethings I have been holding in because I haven't felt like I really had anyone I could talk to.  It is nice when you can just be open and honest with people and you don't have to worry about judgment or retaliation.  Today I am grateful for this, grateful to have someone to talk to .

Rights

48:365 Today I was reading a book about Briton, called Britons coincidentally enough, and there was a chapter that particularly struck a cord.  The section in question was all about women's rights and how women factored into society as citizens and patriots.  The book mainly focuses on the 18th-19th centuries but it did have some profound effects on the way I view my own rights. It is so easy to take our rights, opportunities, and privileges for granted. I am…

Enjoying the Small Moments

47:365   Recently I have been operating under the notion that if I come across something and I have the thought wow thats really cool I should do that one day, and I can in fact do it right then and there, it is better just to act then to let the moment slip by. Today that took the form of stopping on the side of the road and taking a picture of the beautiful sunset.  It would have been…
