Hiking Big Horn Mine

A few weeks back I decided to spend my Friday out in Big Horn Sheep country in the San Gabriel Mountains. The original plan had been to head out early and summit Mt. Baden Powel, I was all set, I even had crampons that I had bought so I could stay safe while walking over ice. With some research the night before, however, I decided that there was a bit too much ice and I had too little experience with…

Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree Adventures [Video]

Finally got around to getting this video together from mine and my friend Justin's camping trip to Joshua Tree three weeks ago.  It was my first time ever there, but definitely, won't be my last. We had such a blast camping at Indian Cove and Jumbo Rocks as well as doing a couple hikes. The weather was perfect and we were able to wander aimlessly through the desert for a few hours without worrying about the heat. Hopefully, I will be…

Switzer Falls

I have such a fun group of friends here in Cali, friends that I am going to miss dearly.  My little hiking group is one of those.  My friend Kyle always organized the weekly trips and the group varies from week to week, but when you break it down it is always the same. Great people.  Beautiful nature. Escape. Today we ventured to Switzer Falls in the San Gabriel Mountains.  It is a quick 9 mile drive into the Angeles…

Summiting My First Mountain

Today I went with my friend Kyle and some of his friends into the wilderness for a lovely hike.  We went to the Los Angeles Mountains and I got to reach my first summit. It was such a lovely day, the weather was perfect at 75, if it had been any hotter it would have been brutal.  The hike was kind of difficult because of the elevation increase and the fact that I am really out of shape.  At the…

Day Trip: Malibu to Solvang, California

Last week my sister and I decided we wanted to do a little day trip jus for the hell of it.  We decided to head to the coast, about a 20 minute drive from where we are living, hit up one of my all time favorite fish places in Malibu, then drive up to Solvang and walk around the little Danish town. (and maybe get some pancakes for pancake day) [caption id="attachment_2399" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Neptune's Net in Malibu, California[/caption] Neptune's…

California Bucket List

So I am getting a little bit restless now having been home for two months.  I have friends that are still on the road, and their wonderings have made me eager to travel again... The problem is I need to be grounded for a while to take care of business and replenish my money situation.  Because of this I decided to put together a California Bucket list of things I want to do here at home.  I figure this is…

Hiking the Bridge to Nowhere

This past Monday a group of us went out to the San Gabriel mountains and hiked the bridge to nowhere.  The hike itself is moderately easy with subtle inclines and shaded paths. If you haven't hike a lot before you will feel the hike in your legs the next day.  The trail is just over 9 miles long and ends with this random bridge in the middle of nowhere, hence the name.  Apparently there is bungie jumping off the bridge,…
