Today I am especially thankful for…
I have had a lot of down time over the past few months and I have realized something about myself. It is all well and nice to be in the fast lane, to be working hard to make a lot of money to buy a lot of things and everything, but that life is just a facade. It is a mask to cover up what is underneath, to distract us from our hollow and empty lives.
It is in the nothingness, the boring monotony that we find what life truly is. It is had to learn how to enjoy time by yourself doing nothing. To be undistracted by the world around, and to sit unencumbered in your own solitude. It can be utterly depressing, but I am learning that that loneliness of solitude is a learning opportunity.
Today I spent the whole day reading. It was a particularly good day, I wasn’t particularly happy. In fact if I am honest it was a rather lonely day. Alan had to work at Swans and we were not able to talk, and it was made even worse by the fact that I will be working early tomorrow and by the time I get off he will be asleep. Tis the life in a long distance relationship. Needless to say it is easy to get down about it. Plus I don’t really have the luxury of friends up here to distract me so I had to settle upon a good book.
Today I am thankful for good books, for being able to go into another world completely built upon words and my imagination. I am thankful for the opportunity to do nothing, thankful because I feel like I got a glimpse into what is really important in life. There is something wonderful in living a life you want, living within your means and opting for less stuff in order to have a more meaningful and full life. A life where you can enjoy spending a day reading or spending time with loved ones or doing what ever it is that adds value to your life.
So today I am thankful for life lessons and good books.
